For a non-technical person, I have accumulated a considerable number of technical skills over the years. I pride myself on being an early adopter of technology. I was even the first one on my team to learn Perl when it was released, the first to take a Java course, and the first to learn CSS. While I am by no means a software developer, I believe it is important to understand the basic concepts of software development to be an effective software designer. If a developer tells me something is difficult or impossible to do, I want to understand enough to know if the developer is being lazy or if there are legitimate reasons why something might be challenging.
